Licorice or Mint?

by Joseph Peterson, son of Mamie – Julina

I remember Grandpapa and his mint candy, which I thought was special. One day he gave me a piece of spicy licorice. I was a little startled at the taste but didn’t say anything. However, I really would have preferred the mint.

Having always been interested in automobiles, I remember the Packard touring car in which he used to ride. In fact, I saw that car in storage in a garage behind the Church Administration Building where I took a course in auto mechanics when I was attending L.D.S. High School in 1930.

My last memory of Grandpapa is seeing my mother kiss him as he lay in his casket in the Beehive House.
