Who was the last President of the Church who personally knew the Prophet Joseph?

Answer: The last President of the Church who personally knew the Prophet Joseph was his nephew President Joseph F. Smith (the 6th President of the Church). Joseph F. Smith was five years old when the Prophet was martyred. He recalled being taught the basic principles of the gospel at the Prophet’s knee and described him as “full of joy, . . . full of gladness, . . . and full of love.” The next President of the Church, Heber J. Grant, was born in 1856.
