Daphne Smith Christopherson

Daphne Smith Christopherson, passed away May 22, 1987, after a five-month illness with cancer.

Born October 13, 1909, Salt Lake City, Utah to Alvin Fielding and Amelia Atkins Smith. Attended Salt Lake City schools and received her teaching credentials from the University of Utah. Taught at Highland Park School four years before moving to Washington D.C. Married Roland G. Christopherson, August 3, 1935, Washington D.C.; later solemnized December 30, 1935, Salt Lake LDS Temple. Active member in the LDS Church having served as Jr. Sunday School chorister in the Richards Ward, Capitol Branch Washington D.C.) and the Monument Park 8th Ward. Taught Sunday School classes, and in the the Primary organizations at various times. Worked in Young Women organizations in Monument Park West Stake. Active in the Relief Society. Has been a substitute teacher in the Salt Lake City schools fr thirty years. She has been a champion of children throughout her adult life. Active as PTA president at Forest School; president of the Delta Gamma Alumnae Association; president of Kappa Kappa Gamma Mothers at the U of U. President of Lady Lions, member of Salt Lake Council of Women, and member of the Queen’s Committee, Days of ’47.

Survived by husband and four daughters, Mrs. Carol (Kenneth McNeil) Smith; Mrs. Annette (John F.) Tanner, all Salt Lake City; Mrs. Janice (Thomas A.) Murdock, Sudbury, Massachusetts; Mrs. Joyce (Frank J.) Lohwasser, Calistoga California; thirteen grandchildren; two sisters and a brother, Ruth Clayton; Virginia Chase, both Salt Lake City; and Dr. J. Alvin Smith, Burbank, California. Preceded in death by a brother, Grant A. Smith.

Funeral services Wednesday, May 27th, 11 a.m., Monument Park 8th Ward, 1794 South Texas Street (2390 East). Friends may call at the Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Tuesday, 7-9 pm, and at the Ward, Wednesday, one hour prior to services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
